ISEN-ASTC-L is a service of the Association of Science-Technology Centers

I develop and edit the self-directed exhibit guides here. They are
available free to teachers on our website, or they may request a copy
by mail.
I have had considerable difficulty in getting feedback or even
ascertaining use statistics. We are pilot-testing a self-directed
backpack program now, and since we have a grant to develop it we were
able to build in observations, teacher stipends and individual
interviews. I have not been able to get that level of information on
the free guides.

Hello all -
I am researching the use of self-directed exhibit guides for school
field trip groups. Our program, Pathways, is designed to provide a
"focused field trip" experience, including pre-visit, museum
exhibit-based, and post-visit activities that explore specific state
science curriculum objectives. If you offer a similar program, is it
free or fee based? What kind of response have you received from
teachers? Is there a high rate of participation? Thank you for your
consideration.
