The guys on 'myth busters' did a segment on microwave myths (short of
putting the poodle in) and found there's no real danger....the coolest
thing they did was put a small ball of aluminum foil in....beautiful
arcs between the gaps....

Wayne,  I can't see any danger, really - the microwaves 
vaporize the thin metallic layer on the CD, and it burns up 
in the air - a a buzzing and a display of dancing blue fire.

It stops quickly, when the metal is gone.

It's one of the rewards of living in this confusing high tech era. It
sort of brings things into perspective - if you like fireworks!
