CALL FOR PAPERS

9th NORTH AMERICAN FUR TRADE CONFERENCE

and

12th RUPERT'S LAND COLLOQUIUM

St. Louis, Missouri ** May 24-28, 2006

"The Fur Trade Before and After Lewis &Clark"

The St. Louis Mercantile Library at the University of Missouri-St. Louis will host a combined meeting of the NORTH AMERICAN FUR TRADE CONFERENCE (NAFTC) and the RUPERT'S LAND COLLOQUIUM (CRLS) to commemorate the bicentennial of Lewis and Clark's return to St. Louis in 1806 and the Mercantile's 160th anniversary as the oldest library in the trans-Mississippi West. The first NAFTC was held in 1965 and last met in 2000. The joint meeting with The Centre for Rupert's Land Studies, based at the University of Winnipeg, will make this an especially large and rewarding conference, truly international in scope, perspectives, and participation.

The Program Committee welcomes proposals for Individual Papers and Organized Sessions in all relevant disciplines that focus on any era or topic of North American fur trading. All papers must be deliverable in 20 minutes, with discussion to follow. They may be finished projects or works-in-process that contribute fresh knowledge and stimulating perspectives. Proposals for Organized Sessions, comprised of three papers, six papers or five papers and a discussant, must be focused on a clearly articulated central theme. This conference is not restricted to academic scholars, and all interested persons are urged to participate as speakers, exhibitors, or registered attendees.

All prospective presenters must submit a complete proposal on the official Proposal Form (which should be on the Conference Website by early May 2005) to the Program Committee by one of the methods indicated below NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 15, 2005. All presenters must register for the conference (Registration Form forthcoming on this Website)
and are encouraged to reserve specially-discounted lodging at the headquarters hotel by April 20, 2006 (visit the hotel website at <http://www.radisson.com/stlouismo_clayton>). The Program Committee anticipates a refereed publication of selected papers delivered at this conference. Author Guidelines will be sent to each presenter whose proposal is accepted.

Submit Proposal Form to one of the following (electronic methods much preferred):
