Chris,

Follow Me Mum is my favorite latching video (thanks Mary Kay). We have a
VCR at the nurses' station that goes directly to all the patient rooms on
the postpartum unit and I play it several times a day so all the
breastfeeding moms can see it. I also show it during breastfeeding class
and even had all the staff watch it for breastfeeding competency this year.
I've found that the one finger "Glover technique" works very well for large
breasted moms and moms with flattish nipples. I have had a few moms say
that the video wasn't that helpful because the moms have "perfect" nipples
and the babies are older so are experts at latching on. I tell moms that
there is no one right way to latch a baby on; it's whatever technique works
best for her and her baby and it may change with practice. Sue Cox's video
is also good. Her principles are the same but she uses a different hand
position that is more helpful for some moms to learn. Another good latching
video is Breastfeeding: A Guide to Successful Positioning. They use a
different hand position in that video too but they all end up with a deep
asymmetric latch. Hope this helps.
