SHA 2005 York, England

I would like to one of the first to congratulate Harold Mytum and our many
other English colleagues for organizing and
bringing off such a successful annual meeting in York. Although northern
England had some of the worst weather in
over 40 years (rain and wind gusts up to 60-90 mph) oddly none of the
conference events were disrupted. The Ouse
River did overflow and start to creep around the hotel = the name, York
Moat House Hotel.

The sessions went fine and the hotel primary setting worked well,
especially for those of us who used it as a base to
do our own touring of the City. York is historic indeed and I was very
lucky to get two sunny days both of which I
was in the Minster for its stained glass.

The tours were great with excellent guides. I found it a bit odd that our
guides on two bus day tours were Americans
(PhD students at the U of York) but they were very knowledgeable. We also
had a very impressive guide (Name?),
the Archaeologist for the Minister, for our Walking Tour of the cathedral.

Special events went very well with a well arranged Awards Ceremony (thanks
to Mary Beaudry) and a very
moving life-story for Marcel Moussette.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone involved in SHA 2005.
