I looked through the archives and could only find similar posts to my
question with no answers.
I have a first time mom. Baby in NICU born at 31 weeks, now 10 days old.
Mom has large/average breasts. No history of surgeries, illness, etc. Was
really engorged 3 days ago, worked through it (heat, massage, pumping etc)
and is now pumping 7-8 times/day. During the pumping to relieve
engorgement mom got 1/2 oz from the right and 3 from the left. Currently
her breasts have softened, but now she has little (less than 1/2 oz) to no
milk coming from her right breast, but is getting 3-4 oz from the left.
She is already doing massage and compression while pumping. Symphony is
set up correctly. I told her to switch sides to make sure the pump was
working correctly. Is there an explanation for this? I know one side can
produce more, but none from one side seems odd. What can be done about
it? Would herbs/prescription help? Thanks, Mandy Frost, MS, RD, IBCLC
