In Portuguese we used the expression FLAUTA TRANSVERSAL (in Italian:
"traverso") to designe the orchestral flute. Thus we distinguished it
from the Recorder (or in Portuguese: FLAUTA DOCE, in French: flute a
bec; in Italian: flauto dolce) and the instrumentist play it in straight
position. An addicional and comparative information: in Brazil, the
people design the sopran sax like "STRAIGHT SAX" or in portuguese:
SAXOFONE RETO.
