The Acquisitions Editor is responsible for finding, signing, developing,
and sponsoring into publication books, journals, and products in other
media for AltaMira Press in the fields of Museum Studies, Public
History, and Local History. Other subject areas may be added to this
portfolio, including cultural resource management, environmental
management, and arts administration. As the keeper of AltaMira’s
highly-regarded publications list in this area, the Editor is expected
to find a significant number of high-quality, high-profile print and
electronic resources for museum and related professionals.  To our
knowledge, the focus of this position is unique in professional
publishing.

The Editor will be an autonomous, self-reliant publishing professional
with at least three years experience in acquiring academic or
professional books. Intimate knowledge of the museum field and/or
related disciplines is a strong plus and may compensate for less
acquisitions experience. Advanced degree in a museum-related field also
helpful. Ability to be productive is the key component, as are
collegiality and team orientation, understanding of the challenges of
working in a corporate satellite office, and a willingness to share in
the administration and administrivia of an office of six people.
Compensation based upon experience; benefits package included.  Position
is preferably full time and based in our Walnut Creek office.

AltaMira Press is the leading commercial publisher of books and other
publications for the museum profession.  Based in the East San Francisco
Bay community of Walnut Creek, we publish academic, professional, and
reference books, advanced college textbooks, academic and professional
journals, and software. We are the left coast subsidiary of Rowman &
Littlefield Publishers, a sizeable independent scholarly press, and work
closely with their production, marketing, accounting, and distribution
departments located in other R&L offices.
