Joyce Coleman asks:

Does anyone have information on the nutritional value of breastfeeding past
one year? There's a pediatrician who tells parents that there's no
nutrition in breastmilk past one year, and that the child should be
weaned. I would appreciate any evidence-based literature. I couldn't find
anything in the archives

On page 89 in The Pediatric Clinics of North America Feb 2001 Volume 48 No. I
called Breastfeeding 2001 Part I, the Evidence for Breastfeeding there is a
chart with three broad columns, 6-8 month 9-11 months and 12-23 months. It
lists Recommended Nutrient Intakes, [RNI] amounts from breastmilk, and form
complementery food. But be sure to read Kathryn Dewey's comments on p. 88 and 90
as these values are not only approximate, but don't account for babies who
continue to nurse lots after 6 months of age.
