Volunteer Position Announcement

Underwriting Specialist
Archaeological Legacy Institute

Background: Underwriting, the nonprofit form of advertising, is key to the
fund-raising strategy of The Archaeology Channel
(www.archaeologychannel.org), our streaming-media Web site. Traffic now is
approaching 10 million hits annually, moving TAC to the upper ranks of
archaeology Web sites worldwide and making us attractive to prospective
underwriters. To realize this funding opportunity, we must devote a strong
effort to reach companies and organizations potentially inclined to join us
as underwriting partners. We seek qualified volunteers to team with our
Underwriting Coordinator, Dr. Guy Prouty, in this campaign.

Hourly Commitment: at least 5 hours per week

Job Purpose: To implement expansion of our Underwriting Program through
contact and communication and arrangement of Underwriting Agreements with
underwriting prospects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Make contact with underwriting prospects in a systematic fashion through
direct mail, e-mail and telephone calls and generate signed Underwriting
Agreements, in order to increase ALI's income and thereby expand ALI's
ability to pursue its public mission.

2. Become closely familiar with The Archaeology Channel and related programs
through careful perusal of the Web site and communication with the
Underwriting Coordinator, in order communicate fully and accurately the
benefits of underwriting for our underwriting prospects and clients.

3. Become closely familiar with our Underwriting Program through examination
of the Underwriting Program page on TAC and communication with the
Underwriting Coordinator, in order to guide underwriting prospects in an
efficient manner through the process of selecting programs to sponsor and
signing and implementing the Underwriting Agreement.

4. Report progress and results on a regular and systematic basis to the
Underwriting Coordinator by telephone and e-mail to promote the efficiency
of the Underwriting Program.

Qualifications:

B.A. or higher degree in archaeology or in anthropology with a
specialization in archaeology; at least one year's experience in advertising
or marketing; refined oral and written communication skills. Preference for
a business degree and multiple years of experience in advertising or
marketing. Applicants should be prepared to make cold calls as well as
follow-up calls to direct mailing campaigns.

Deadline: 31 December 2004
