Myself and maybe 2 other mothers I have known have experienced horrendous
after pains such as you described, however they started quickly after birth
and where much less by day 5.  With the jaundice -- how is mom's milk
supply?  Is it possible she has retained placenta and her body is attempting
to rid itself of it?  Does she have a fever or other signs of infection that
would indicated a virus?
