Hello All,
Yes, yes, it's that time of year again. No, I'm not talking the holidays
here, so put that credit card down! I'm talking professional development,
I'm talking about *bonding* with your fellow science geeks, I'm talking,
yup, you guessed it. . .ASTC proposals.
There are two sessions that we're thinking about and for which we're looking
for co-conspirators. If you are interested in one, or heck, both, please

Session proposal I:
Tentative Title: Awesome Family Floor Programs: Activities and Experiences
to Encourage Adult-Child Interactions
Hands-on floor programs aren’t just for kids anymore! Hear about successful
experiences that encourage parents and kids to explore science together,
question and challenge each other, and work together as a team. How can you
develop and facilitate programs with a broad appeal to different ages,
learning styles, and backgrounds?
This session will be in workshop format with representatives from The Tech
Museum, and XXX (your institution here). Participants will learn about the
experiences of the various teams in developing family floor programs, be
given concrete examples of successful activities, explore and experience
these activities for themselves and be given the resources to replicate said
activities. Facilitation techniques to encourage family participation, and
adult comfort with science content as well as methods to extend the museum
experience to the home, will be a common thread for presentation and
discussion during all activities.

Session proposal II:
Tentative Title: To Facilitate or Not to Facilitate: Hybrid Exhibits and
Programs
Have you ever developed a program so damn good it had to become an exhibit?
What about an exhibit so interactive it could’ve been a program? Come hear
from our panel about their experiences with combining the best of both
worlds. Take part in a hybrid experience.
This session will be a panel discussion, highlighting the experiences of
panel members at The Tech and ? . Points to be addressed:
-Characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of exhibits vs. programs
-Specific examples of hybrid exhibits and programs
-Interactivity: how does this affect visitor perceptions of their learning
and overall visit
-Strategies to integrate and create hybrid exhibits and programs
-Partnerships that need to occur inside your institution
-Evaluation of hybrids
-Audiences drawn to hybrids – does this address accessibility for most?
To the extent possible, we want to include components from at least one
hybrid exhibit-program for audience participation.
