You reduce your chances of musical ecstacy enormously by insisting on
DDD, and there is no good sonic reason to do this anyway.
Rostropovich is really the cellist you want. He risks big gestures and
always succeeds. You might also look out for a student of his, Ha-Na
Chang, whose recording of Prokofief's Sinfonia Concertante and Cello
Sonata is just out on EMI, to general acclaim.
