Pam wrote about her feelings about a Lactnet grandbaby born at home:

"Congratulations! Way to go Charity! What a
fantastic accomplishment - a footling breech HOME birth!!! Wow!!!
That was my initial reaction and even tho I don't know Charity (just thru
her mother-in-law) I couldn't be more proud than if it was MY own daughter
who had birthed this way"

vs the hospital response:

"was more than negative to say the least. "Is she crazy?
How could she be so irresponsible to even think about a HOME birth let
alone a breech birth? That's malpractice! The midwife who delivered her
must be nuts! I would never do that!"

Either way we are so far from normal--if we have to think it is a big deal that a baby is born at home, footling breech or not. Pam, don't misunderstand, in our culture, we should all be proud of Charity and her family. But, if birth really were a normal life process, we would all celebrate the birth, but birth stories like these would be par for the course.
