The University of Texas at San Antonio's Department of Anthropology
announces the Summer Historical Archaeology Field School at Mission Nuestra
Señora de la Purísima Concepciόn de Acuña, an 18th Century Spanish Mission
in San Antonio, Texas. The field school will be held June 1 to July 2,
2004, and will be conducted by Dr. Steve Tomka and Dr. Raymond Mauldin of
the Center for Archaeological Research.
Mission Concepción is located within the San Antonio Missions National
Historical Park in proximity to four other 18th Century missions and near
downtown San Antonio and the famed River Walk. Field school students will
excavate the mission courtyard to improve documentation of mission life and
to inform National Park Service efforts to restore the courtyard and
interpret it for visitors. Participants will be trained in a variety of
archaeological methods and techniques. For further details, please visit
