You might also read the anthropological treatise "Military Organization and
Society" by Stanislav Andreski with a foreward by A. R. Radcliffe-Brown
(University of California Press. Berkley and Los Angeles 1971) to help make
sense of it. After all Germany and Russia invaded Poland.
