Normal birth isn't in the same category as surgery or injury.

Birth is a normal physical activity like swimming a race or running a
marathon. Strenuous, life-changing, etc... AND normal.

Of course, injuries DO happen in birth, sports, and other strenuous
activities. But normal means muscular activity without injury. Dental
surgery is injury, Cesarean surgery is injury. I birthed three times, I've
swum many races, and I've been injured during physical activities. They're
not the same. Nobody in the field of athletics would "dream" of calling
injury "normal."

Birth is normal. Breastfeeding is normal. Injury is injury. Let's keep our
terminology accurate.

Linda J. Smith, BSE, FACCE, IBCLC who is still limping today because of an
injured knee 35 years ago and the surgery that "fixed" the injury.
