thanks to all who responded.  the overwhelming concensus, both on and off list is to shoot for a 'preview'.  staff certainly thinks this is the route to go.

i think the real positive that could be gained is in seeing how the space really functions (this is a multi-disciplinary artspace, but, hey, i come to this list all the time!).  its akin to seeing where people walk, before placing the sidewalks.
