Good general stuff (particularly for the 20th century) and I think the
links they provide are even more useful.  Of course, I find that I get my
best information from specialist/experts on a particular subject who owe me
a few libations.

This list is a particularly good example of a spot to mine for serendipity.
Nothing like a thousand "inquiring minds" and their nimble little fingers
mining all of those search engines and then telling us about thier results.

However, Smoke, they are a great starting point and for many categories,
