In a 1974 issue of the Pacific Coast Archaeological Quarterly, I published an
article on settlement patterns of prehistoric Kumeyaay people and proposed a
bi-polar settlement system with a "wheel" pattern of base camps as the hub and
specialized satellite work sites radiating outward. Proxemics were predicted
to be defined by natural geography, biological habitats, and territorialism
negotiation between kinship groups. Although this is not "central place theory,"
you might find it to be a good attempt at making sense of prehistoric
settlement patterns in western North America. I am sorry that I dont have the volume
and issue number right at hand, but if someone is interested I can track it
down.
