Karl Gurke did, indeed, leave a brick comparative research collection at
the University of Idaho. We were grad student office (read Bull Pen here)
mates in the late 70's. The last time I talked to him was at an SHA in
Washington, D.C. back in the mid-90's but I belive that he is still
employed as an Historian with the National Park Service in Skagway, Alaska.

I heard Karl Gurcke left a brick collection at the University of Idaho, but
never heard how it was used. Is there any truth to that rumor?
