I think Judy Ritchie hit on a point that is essential to get across to nursing moms!

"It is said about NYC or other large cities that to keep from being accosted look
like a person with purpose who knows what they are doing and where they
are headed."

To avoid negative attention, moms nursing in public need to look like they know what they are doing and make no apologies for it! This was one of the most important things for me to learn, and it served me well! My situation was such that the three children that I nursed by far the longest, especially during the period of time that they needed to nurse on demand, were the three who are not white, as I am (they are black/white, black, and black/asian). Even though we had a situation that would tend to attract more attention, I noticed very little in the way of negative looks, and very rarely had anyone in public speak to me, unless it was to tell me something about their own breastfeeding experience.

As far as "places to nurse" (I loved reading about Jennifer nursing in a parade), I nursed on planes, trains and boats, but the most unusual thing is probably the fact that, by the time he was six months old, Thomas had nursed in 9 different countries!
