Over the years since I began collecting CDs (switching from LPs),
those treasures not found at Berkshire, were discovered as used in
the PREX, the acronym by which the Princeton Record Exchange is known.
Often these were out of print and true discoveries. All that has changed
over the last 4 months. They now stock almost exclusively "cheap stuff",
mostly new, like a lot of Opera d'Oro, Classica d'Oro, and Gala. There
is almost nothing to discover there. There are also a lot of Duttons,
mostly the same you will see at Berkshire. The out of print, the
great-priced hyper-bargains and the true treasure is simply gone. There
must be a causal nexus with the demise of the various stores being
discussed. I am not too depressed as I have more than enough music to
occupy myself, but mostly buy on-line these days and that is a lot less
fun than hunting in bins.
