I searched the archives and couldn't find an answer to this.

(I have permission from the mother to post info)

I got a call from a woman who appears to have had 5 or 6 episodes of
infected glands of montgomery. (Actually the baby's grandma, a LLL leader
called me.) The glands swell, get hot, turn white and are terribly
painful. They then "pop" and seem to crust over, leaving a bit of a crater.
She has had them on both breasts, the baby is 3 months old.

We are going to try some topical antibiotic, but I fear the problem is
really to deep for this to be too effective. I am suspecting some issue
with an unresolved mastitis (mom had a case a month or so ago.) I would
imagine staph or strep would be a culprit in these glands being infected.

I am wondering if we should request treatment similar to regular masitis? A
10 day course of Diclox+ or similar. I believe the mother's first
infection, which was masistis, was NOT treated properly. I belieive Amoxil
may have been used, which might explain an unresolved low grade infection,
which may have then spread to the glands. Is this out of the realm of
possibility?

Mom is in a lot of pain. I did suggest getting baby's throat cultured, too.

Any suggestions on the best way to handle this?

Thanks
