Hi Ann,

The AAP statement and AAFP statements might be useful to include for the
reference of the MD.

What about articles on the biochemistry of breastmilk as well as ones on
the immunodulatory and anti-inflammatory factors in milk? Another option
is to show the risks of GI issues from formulas...

Do you have Clinics in Perinatology, Jun 1999 vol 26 No 2:
Clinical aspects of milk and lactation

The following articles might be helpful to share from that edition:
Nutritional and Biochemical Properties of Human Milk
Kunz et al. this is a two part article that might be useful to establish
the unique superiority of breastmilk as well as how the different
(species specific factors) are important to the gut.

Then the next article in this journal is by Garofaro and Goldman,
Expression of Functional Immunodulatory and Anti inflammatory Factors in
Human Milk. This one talks about how human milk has components which
modulate the immuno develop as well as the some of the antimicrobial of
the infant.

Another source would be Ped Clinics of North America, Breastfeeding 2001
See Picciano's article: Nutrient composition of milk
And Hamosh's: Bioactive factors in Human Milk

If you do a medline search, you can get all of these abstracts,
Hope this helps.

With warmest regards
