Hi all,
Today I saw 26 mother baby pairs in 8 hours. I worked with 2 babies who
had terribly discordant sucks, one set of twins, a 12 yr old mom, two moms
with very flat nipples (nipple shield), a baby with a terrible tongue tie
and a mom who had just returned to the floor from ICU (HELLP syndrome).
Several of the moms were spanish speaking (I speak very little spanish),
several were from very different cultures and some were uncertain about
wanting to breastfeed. Several had breastfed but since the baby was so
hungry during the night had given ABM. I charted on each of these patients,
signed of on the teaching notes and billing form. I also talked to the Dr
about the meds for the ICU mom and arranged for two moms to get breastpumps
for their NICU babies. I am exhausted!
When I returned to the office, I was informed that we are being told that
our manager wants to meet with us to help us 'manage our time more
effectively'. Because of course I should have been done in 6 hours or less.
So, I am asking for your help. I know this has been discussed, but I
could not find it in archives. My boss wants to have as many references as
possible about what other LC's do at their hospitals. Could you please email
me with the number of patients you see and the number of hours you work and
how many LC's you have on the floor each day. Anyone fight this battle and
win? Thanks, Judith IBCLC
