Hello all,
I have been helping a mom and would like your input and suggestions. I have her permission to post. Her one mo. old baby (birthdate 6/24) has had problems with a clenching latch. It has been very painful, but slowly seems to be improving. However, she has a bruise on the right side and nursing is still extraordinarily painful. She has seen an LC twice and myself once, as well as phone consults. Right now, the LC has recommended nursing only on the left side and pumping on the right until Wed. Mom is feeling quite distraught. Lost a previous baby and really wants to get this right. If anyone has any suggestions for how to help her nurse on the bruised right side, it would be appreciated. I have not worked with nipple shields previously, but am wondering if this would be an appropriate situation to use one.
