I saw a woman who has not nursed for 6 years, but since
weaning her last child, has had a small amount of what she
feels is milk leakage ever since. (a few drops every day or
two inside of bra) SHe had an MRI of her head 5 years ago,
and tried parlodel with no help. A prolactin level last month
was 19...normal. She has had 2 episodes of mastitis in the
past 4 years, which were excised because they did not
resolve with antibiotics. The most recent one grew staph.
She was referred to me by the surgeon to see if I could help
her stop the "milk" production. The only promising bit of
information was she has terrible periodontal disease...and
the pathology report of the most recent mass said
"lactational changes" and "fibrocystic changes".
Has anyone seen anything like this?? I am wondering if her
bad teeth could be seeding her breast infections...in cyst
fluid?? But why the "lactational changes" 6 years later??
Thanks-
Kathy Leeper, MD, IBCLC
