Below is an announcement for a staff archaeologist/instructor position
at Washington and Lee University. Thanks for forwarding it to any
interested parties.

Best wishes,
Alison Bell

Washington and Lee University. The Department of Sociology and
Anthropology invites applications for the position of Staff
Archaeologist/Instructor. Washington and Lee is a highly selective,
nationally ranked, liberal arts university in Lexington, Virginia. Our
archaeology program is dedicated to providing undergraduates both a
solid foundation in anthropological thought and direct experience in
archaeology. The duties of this full-time position include participating
in diverse aspects of W&L's research program in archaeology (overseeing
artifact processing, managing the archaeology lab, writing reports,
etc.) and teaching a limited number of courses per year. In most years,
one course will be an archaeological field methods class co-taught with
W&L's faculty archaeologist and the other course will be a section of
Introduction to Anthropology, although the staff
archaeologist/instructor might occasionally offer alternate courses. To
provide our students exposure to CRM archaeology, we also periodically
undertake local, small-scale contract projects for which the staff
archaeologist assumes primary responsibility. For this position, an MA
in anthropology and archaeological field/lab experience are required.
Teaching experience, a background in CRM archaeology, and knowledge of
Virginia archaeology are preferred. Please send a cover letter and c.v.
to Alison Bell, Assistant Professor of Archaeology, Department of
Sociology and Anthropology, Washington and Lee University, Lexington, VA
24450. Applications received by August 1, 2003 will receive full
consideration. Washington and Lee is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
