Judith Lang Zaimont's Sonata for Piano Solo To Be Performed on June 1
at Washington, DC's National Museum of Women in the Arts- Pianist Joanne
Polk To Perform This Major Work

Judith Lang Zaimont's critically acclaimed Sonata for Piano Solo will
be performed by renowned pianist Joanne Polk on Sunday, June 1, 2003 -
3:00 PM at the National Museum of Women in the Arts, 1250 New York Avenue,
N.W. in Washington, D.C.

This performance of the 3-movement Zaimont Sonata is especially
significant. The piece was premiered in May of 2000 at the Phillips
Collection in Washington D.C. and was cited as the most important solo
piano piece of 1999 by Piano & Keyboard magazine in its great piano
compositions of the 20th Century timeline. It is the composer's largest
solo statement to date for the instrument and has also been performed
in New York City and Minneapolis. The third movement, Impronta Digitale,
was chosen as a representative American work for the 2001 Van Cliburn
Competition and was performed by both of the competition's Gold Medal
winners. Joanne Polk has recorded the Sonata for a 2003 CD release on
Albany Records.

Additional repertoire for this concert will include Four Songs by Clara
Schumann.

Tickets for the June 1 concert are $15 general admission, $12 IAWM and
NMWA members and seniors (60 and over) and $10 students. Reservations
are required. For reservations and other concert information, contact
the NMWA at 202-783-5000 or 1-800-222-7270. You can also visit them
