We've had very interesting results with two types of borings. During a
geomorphological survey to identify and date buried soil surfaces ~25% of
the borings on alluvial came up with cultural material, some dating to the
Archaic. On a large terrace on which had been constructed four firing ranges
and their associated berms and a skeet range, we used an 8" power auger and
found intact sites beneath the construction zone.
