Having recently delivered in the hospital I practice in, I was dismayed to
realize our nurses give every discharged mom one of those gift bags from the
formula company. I actually had to argue with the nurse who discharged me
as I refused to take one home. She kept saying "But it's such a nice bag
and your daughter could use it for her stuff if you don't want it." I kept
trying to explain that I didn't want to be a walking formula company
advertisement, nor do I want my 8 year old daughter to be one either!
I know these gift bags have been discussed here before. Our nurses tell me
that many moms do feel they are being denied something due them if they
don't get their "free gift" from the hospital. I don't know how to convince
either the nurses or the patients that formula companies are not giving
these things away out of the goodness of their hearts. Have any of you who
are not in baby friendly environments had any success in getting rid of
these things?
