I don't know if this has been said in previous posts on child protective
services, but any licensed health care provider (MD,RN,RD,MSW,OT,PT, etc.)
as well as law enforcement officials, hospitals/clinics are required by LAW
to report any suspected or actual abuse/neglect or face losing their
license. This is serious business for those of us who rely on our licenses
for our incomes. In Illinois, this is called mandated reporting. I would
suggest you call your local child protective services office (DCFS-
Department of Children and Family Services) for information on mandated
reporters. Many local state/local health departments offer periodic
training on mandated reporting and all have copies of policies/procedures.
The call can be made anonymously. Your phone call will generate an
investigation, but unfortunately, the system is so overwhelmed that many of
these reports get lost in the shuffle and that's when we learn of them on
the 6:00 news. Hope this helps in our continuing quest to better the lives
of our children.
