OK, wise ones...

Wednesday I am on a panel of 3 people talking about breastfeeding at
Grand Rounds to Family Practice residents.  I have 10 minutes, and one
of the RN/IBCLCs whom I work with (who also works for a hospital) has 5
minutes, and a nursery nurse has 5 minutes.  We called the nursery nurse
today to ask what she is going to speak about so we don't overlap.  She
is planning to include talking about supplementing babies until their
mothers "have enough milk".

I will not be on "my turf", as I work at a breastfeeding center
independent of the hospital, and I don't want to step on any toes.
However, I view this as a unique opportunity to teach the residents
something.  I am planning on stating that babies need to get to the
breast early and often, and that formula supplementation should be
avoided unless medically necessary, and will go on to include the "just
one bottle" references.  I anticipate this will be in direct opposition
to what the nursery nurse plans to say.

Any suggestions/ammunition for this encounter??  I plan to avoid using
the words "baby friendly" or "10 steps", as these are dirty words in the
nursery.
