A) this is NOT a subject of historical archaeology and should be dropped
ASAP

B)  ANY  big game (deer and larger) hunting rife from the early 1900s
onward will cut through a "bullet proof" vest like a hot knife through
butter.  They were only meant to stop pistol bullets which are usually half
the velocity of rifle bullets.

I would be happy to continue this discussion OFF list.
