Despite undoubted similarities, I wouldn't put Popov (1904-1972) in the
same league as Shostakovich, but I've found his music to be well worth
exploring.  The CD mentioned couples the first and second symphonies on
Olympia OCD576 (77:47).  There are two other Olympia CDs: Symphony #5
and Symphonic Suite #1 on OCD598 (62:40); Symphony #6 and Chamber Symphony
for Seven Instruments on OCD588 (69:52).  I'd suggest OCD576 as a starting
point.  The other two CDs were recently available from Berkshire Record
Outlet and may be still.
