Dear All, The latest BBC Music Magazine contains a rather fine live Prom
performance of Shostakovich 4 (BBC Philharmonic / Vassily Sinaisky).  It
was recorded on 20th July 2000.  Was anyone on the list at the concert?

If you are in the UK a very large magazine/books retail chain is selling
this issue with the CD for 1 cheaper at 2.99.  A steal.

I enjoy the Jarvi/Chandos recording the best overall.  I do have a
soft spot for the Rosropovich/National SO recording because of the fine
orchestral playing, stunning sound and awesome finale.  The Rostropovich
is less manic than other performances but I do not feel that it is at
the espense of overall power.
