Aloha,

Just my own experience here. I remember reading about 12 years ago (sorry, I
never saved it) that solids should not be started till 9 months when a babies
G.I. system would be better developed. This doctor said whether you were
breastfeeding or formula feeding, wait. With my oldest, I waited till she
was 11 months. She decided, she didn't want to wait any longer. As far as
those growth charts are concerned, she was always at the top. I had a
wonderful, supportive ped at the time. She would ask if I was ready to start
solids, I'd say no, and she would give me suggestions for starting if I
decided before the next visit. She accepted what we were doing. My daughter
was never anemic either.

With my other 3, I made it clear to family, who was always trying to push
solids, that it would not happen before 6 months. My son made it quite clear
he was ready at around 6 months when he took food off my plate and stuffed it
in his mouth. Baby #3 and #4 also made their feelings known somewhere between
6-9 months. All were big and fat, never anemic, etc. They all went right
to table food which was either mashed or pre-chewed.

Aloha,
Gloria Thai
