Hi, Tammy from Colorado here.

I have been asked to come up with some "good, non-biased" reasons why
Babywise and parent-scheduled feeding/sleeping/playing are a bad idea for a
neonate. This packet is to be presented at a peds section meeting in
mid-October. We have a peds group who is about to RECOMMEND Babywise as a
good parenting book, ESPECIALLY the info about feeding and sleeping!

First I emailed Jan Barger (hi, Jan!) who directed me to the Dr. Aney
website. I copied just about everything on there. But I've been asked by this
peds group NOT to hand out the anti-Babywise pamphlet because "it's too
biased in the direction of those attachment parenting gurus", and "we want
our parents to have a life that allows them to do other things than feed the
baby!"

Of course, you know this means war.

I plan to talk to Marianne Neifert at our local lactation journal club next
week. When presented with the AAP statement on breastfeeding, one doc said,
"Well, the leaders of that group tend, in my opinion, to be somewhat
liberal." I doknow what else to do, other than rally the troops.

Oh, and a couple of these peds think Bob Buchnam is a WONDERFUL guy.
(Yes...sigh...he's here locally, too. Not in this group, though, thank
goodness.)

I've searched the archives. If the info is presented by a doc, more's the
better. (I am but a mere RN, and thus don't know what I'm talking about,
according to this group of docs. I'm an IBCLC, too, but apparently that
doesn't make any difference.)

Thanks, wise ones.

Going to get wood to build a shrine to my LACTNET mentors now,

Tammy in Colorado
