And Brian, and probably others.  I remember a TV documentary about the
foundation which included interviews with some then-young Brit composers
who'd been delighted to receive unsolicited no-strings-attached grants.
Unless you read the back covers of your CDs very carefully, you'd be unaware
of the Rex Foundation's participation.  It's a change from the kind of
pseudo-altruism that expects good deeds to be glossily publicised.  I don't
know whether the organisation still functions, but it certainly set a fine
standard for philanthropy.
