When I roomed with a soon-to-be member of the Emerson String Quartet,
he made fun of the slow tempi of the Quartetto Italiano in the middle
quartets, but I still always thought they communicated the music very well.
As a "look-at-the-score" person, I liked to have time to hear the music,
not just marvel at how well/fast someone could play it.
