The ACO rather reminded me of early Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields
- pure delight. The attendance at the concert was very disappointing,
but perhaps understandable given the poor advertising - the concert series
web-site did not even mention that Stephen Hough would be performing!
I had never heard Sculthorpe's music before and was quite taken with what
they played. When I wrote of my pleasure to a friend in Australia, he
kindly sent me a CD (ABC 454 505-2) of Sculthorpe's "Sun Music," performed
by the Adelaide SO under David Porcelijn. I have also ordered a couple of
CDs of his music from local sources. It would appear that good music is
alive and well "down-under." Some time ago I discovered and found very much
to my liking the work of Brenton Broadstock, another Australian composer.
