I got more of the projectile points in the can story from my friend Ryan who
was working nearby. In his words:

"It was 1994-1995 and I was working for a company
called Moriah and Associates (one of the bigger CRM outfits out west). As I
recall the project was somewhere south of Cody, Wyoming. But I couldn't
recall the project name even if I had too. It was one of those cash and
carry, two-week shovelbum jobs on some utility/pipeline(?) survey. I didn't
actually find the points, but the historical archaeologist that Moriah had
showed them around to the crew and told us the story, I guess he was on the
same project. As I heard it, he found them under the floor boards on an old
line cabin that dated to the 1890's somewhere in the area."

Maybe the historical archaeologist who found them will read this and fill us
in. It's a great story.
