Some kinds of plastic aren't stable and leach bad things into whatever is
stored in them; some plastics are porous and absorb some of the contents;
some plastic is made out of already used material.

Frankly, at wholesale, 4 or 5 gallon plastic pails with lids aren't all
that expensive. We re-use ours but dedicate them to honey. A lot of
effort goes into keeping the food supply safe. We don't see any reason to
fool around.
