The great Catalan composer Xavier Montsalvatge (1912-2002) passed away a
few days ago...

The music of Montsalvatge is difficult to classify. I would say that it
stands between the traditionalism of Rodrigo and the modernism of Ohana...
I know, this does not say much ;-)

I stongly recommend the following Marco Polo CD, which offers a good live
recording of the fascinating Requiem Symphony:

The following ASV issue is also quite interesting, especially for the Folia
Daliniana:

For those who read Spanish, this is a recent interview with the composer:

I hope that I am not the only one here interested in the music of
Montsalvatge!?! Indeed, an interesting composer just passed away...
