That long-overdue appreciation in the NYTimes today of our fine
new Michael Tilson Thomas era across the street from the War Memorial
(http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/10/arts/music/10OEST.html) makes a curious
reference to the SF Opera as having "attained prominence largely through
its presentations of Wagner's `Ring' cycle."

Opera fans with longer memories will disagree.
