Probably a Marshalltown.  We used such monsters under Joffre Coe on sites in western North Carolina in the late 1960s.  Very useful for cleaning large areas for drawing and photos.  Leland was on some of those digs.

During our fieldschool at Middleburg Plantation, Leland Ferguson used a
mason's trowel with what looked like a 12-inch blade. It actually worked
quite well in the sandy soils we were excavating--faster than the standard
size trowel and much more precise than a shovel. Don't know what brand,
though.
