I have both - the Palestrina is conducted by Suitner - the Schmidt is
conducted by Welser-Most.

After a few hearings, I find the  Palestrina quite enjoyable.

I also enjoy the Schmidt - I also have the symphonies so the style is
familiar.

I don't read the words of a lot of operas and oratorios - some are so
lame that it would detract from my enjoyment of the piece.  From what
I have read of Revelations, it supports my conclusion that people used
psychodelic drugs even that far back.
