In answer to Christopher Rosevear, we certainly, as far as I know, have
nothing comparable in the US. In church music there are the examinations of
the American Guild of Organists, but they are only for organ performance and
choral directing; I don't know of anything for other instruments.

The question is--would it be a good idea if there were, and what group would
be the best group to sponsor it? NOT the Federal Government--they'd mess it
up as they do almost everything else.
