I heard my first live Ring at the old Met, in the Family Circle, where
tickets cost US$2.00, in early 1949, w/ Stiedry conducting.  I was
seventeen and blown away by Wagner's music.  Maybe I simply didn't know
any better but I enjoyed Stiedry's conducting.
